Operation Christmas Child

On the first week of explorers the charity commitee gave themselves an almost impossible task. To make up 50 shoeboxes for the Samaritans purse operation christmas child. Headed by Josh Kemp they delivered letters to every beaver, cub and scout group in the district and got all the young leaders to encourage the support of this fantastic programme. They held a night where the commitee packed and wrapped all the boxes and for five weeks had a special jar in the quarry for people to donate loose change. In the end they managed to create an over target amount of 51 boxes showing the fantastic effort from all involved. A special thanks to the 8th for donating £70 to support next years effort where we are looking to compile 52 boxes.

It was awkward when Adam turned up late with his box...

The Showtime Experience

Adam's Showtime Experience

My experience of Showtime was a good one, with it being my Second Gang show performance with my first Gang Show at St John church. It's a good experince.

My favourite memory of Showtime was when Matthew Berry lost his chocy cake here is what happened  Matthew Berry - Susan!
Susan - What?!
Matthew Berry - Ali sat in me chocy cake!

My favourite scene the finnale because it gives you that sense of proud of completing the show especially on the last show it makes it all worth it.

My favourite scene that I was in was behind the wall, that got some laughs.

People should take part in showtime because it will be the best ten weeks you'll probably do! I think the organisers of showtime should keep up the good work!

My showtime experience was a good one and made better because of being in the playhouse.

Ali's Showtime Experience

Showtime 2011 was an awesome experience. A group of friends bonding and cross dressing together, what could be more fun? It was a tiring 9 weeks of rehearsal but after the final show finished, a sense of sadness overcame me and I nearly cried. Nearly. I look forward to two years time as I will definitely be doing Showtime again despite my scepticism of the name…The funniest memory of mine had to be was one a certain leader told a certain scout to properly push a custard tart straight into the Mona Lisa’s face ending up with said baked good right in Abi Moffat’s nose. She wasn’t best pleased. My favourite scene was Ices Ices because it involved dressing up as a woman and putting on a welsh accent which the crowds thought were hilarious. If I could say one thing that would encourage people to be involved in Showtime, it’s full of free food. I felt so fat after the show it was unreal!  To the organisers of Showtime… Thanks for an awesome time!

Its two weeks till the cast of Whitley Bay start performing 'Showtime'. The show is coming along really well just the few bits to touch up on but i'm sure the cast will have no problems with that.

Jamboree.

During the summer 13 members of Whitley bay district went to the 22nd world scout jamboree in Sweden. Its taken us til now to get our heads around what happened... We left from Newcastle airport and landed in Copenhagen which was far sunnier. We had a bit of a laugh on some power boats which went at a slow 90mph nearly losing loosely attached body parts... When we got to the actual jamboree we crawled around the site for an hour as they didnt know where our pitch was. At the jamboree everyone was friendly and happy you couldn't go five minutes without a hello, bonjour or areet. We experianced bad hairdressing, disease, and poor hygene which meant it was the best 3 weeks of our lives :) Whatever happened we had a laugh including people throwing up on other people (it's a sign of bonding). We then had to leave our international friends behind to go and stay in the Czech Republic for a few days before being flown back to Newcastle and being united with our families (and Greggs) once more. Had to be the best 3 weeks of our lives. I left simply scouting as a warrior of peace.

Twilight The result.

SUCCESS!!! One of the Whitley Bay teams won the explorer event! After walking across the map back to Belford and sitting in a field for 4 hours they managed to win!

Twilight.

Twilight 2011 is upon us. This saturday 36 explorer scouts will take part in the BIGGEST man hunt game in Northumberland. The aim of the game is to from the drop off point, which we will find out on the day, all the way to the muster point which this year will be at Belford.

Throughout  the years Whitley Bay Explorers have performed well at this event. In 2009, when the first Twilight happened, we came first! And the following year we came third!

So high hopes this year  for our teams!

We Will Rock You.

Last week 40 explorer scouts from Whitley Bay went on a once in a lifetime trip to the Sunderland Empire in Sunderland, to go and see the touring west end production of We Will Rock You. One explorer scout told us "It was amazing! A lot better than expected" Some explorers enjoyed the show so much that they were looking on the web on the way home to see if they would be able to go and see the show again. Another explorer also said "I hope Showtime is a good as that!"
